Friday Duʿāʾ

The Accepted Hour on Friday

Every Friday contains a special time during which duʿāʾ is hoped to be accepted. Seek this blessed hour with sincerity, salawat, repentance, and hope in Allah.

The Hadith

Meaning: On Friday there is a time when no Muslim servant stands in prayer and asks Allah for something except that Allah grants it to him.

Reference: Reported in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim.

When Is the Accepted Hour?

Scholars mentioned different opinions regarding this special hour. Two well-known opinions are:

1. During the Khutbah and Prayer

Some scholars said it is from the time the imam sits on the minbar until the Jumu'ah prayer is completed.

2. The Last Hour Before Maghrib

Many scholars preferred the time after Asr until Maghrib, especially the final part of Friday before sunset.

Practical advice: Try to make duʿāʾ during both times: while attending Jumu'ah with focus, and again after Asr before Maghrib.

What Should You Do?

1. Praise Allah

Begin your duʿāʾ by praising Allah with humility.

2. Send Salawat

Send blessings upon Prophet Muhammad ﷺ before asking.

3. Ask Forgiveness

Make istighfar and return to Allah sincerely.

4. Make Personal Duʿāʾ

Ask Allah for your needs in this world and the Hereafter.

5. Pray for Family

Make duʿāʾ for your parents, spouse, children, and loved ones.

6. Pray for the Ummah

Remember the oppressed, the sick, the deceased, and the entire Muslim Ummah.
