The Story Behind Ashura

Stories of Ashura

A story of faith, courage, patience, and complete trust in Allah.

The Tyrant Pharaoh

Long ago, Pharaoh ruled Egypt with arrogance and oppression. He claimed power over the people and persecuted those who believed in Allah.

Among those whom Allah sent to guide him was Musa (as), one of the greatest prophets.

Musa (as) called Pharaoh to worship Allah alone, but Pharaoh rejected the truth and continued his oppression.

The Escape

Allah commanded Musa (as) to lead the Children of Israel away from Pharaoh.

When Pharaoh learned of their departure, he gathered his army and chased them.

Soon, the believers found themselves trapped.

The sea was in front of them. Pharaoh's army was behind them. There seemed to be no escape.

Trust in Allah

The people became frightened and said:

"We are sure to be overtaken."

But Musa (as) replied with complete faith:

"No! Indeed, my Lord is with me. He will guide me."

Even when all worldly solutions disappeared, Musa (as) trusted Allah completely.

The Sea Split

Allah commanded Musa (as) to strike the sea with his staff.

By the command of Allah, the sea split into pathways.

The believers crossed safely.

When Pharaoh and his army followed, the sea closed over them.

Allah saved Musa (as) and the believers.

Why Ashura Matters

When Prophet Muhammad ﷺ arrived in Madinah, he found people fasting on Ashura.

They explained that it was the day Allah saved Musa (as) and his people.

The Prophet ﷺ then fasted Ashura and encouraged Muslims to fast it.

The Lesson of Ashura

Ashura teaches us that Allah's help can arrive when everything seems impossible.

When doors appear closed, Allah can open a path through the sea.

When fear surrounds us, Allah can grant peace.

When hardship becomes overwhelming, Allah can provide relief from places we never expected.

The story of Ashura is not only about the past. It is a reminder for every believer today.

Reflect Today

  • What difficulty am I facing right now?
  • Am I trusting Allah as Musa (as) trusted Him?
  • Have I remembered that Allah controls every outcome?
  • What step can I take today to become closer to Allah?
